Introduction
This Hikari Sinking Wafer review is written from a hobbyist perspective after personally testing the food.
Ahh, yes, another Hikari fish food, but hey, I can’t complain. Just about every food I have tried from Hikari has been good so far. But how do the sinking wafers stack up compared to the rest? In my review below, I hope to answer this question and some of the others you may have to help you decide whether this fish food is right for you.

Do Fish Like the Food?
Yes, my fish enjoy this food. It even seems to cause a bit of a frenzy at times after it’s been in the water for a short time. While the food is designed for bottom feeders like catfish, I notice that my other fish like to take some bites of it as well. I even find that my shrimp enjoy it. Overall, a strong win for the food.

Package Sizing and Pricing
Hikari Sinking Wafers come in four sizes. A .88oz bag, a 1.76oz bag, a 3.88oz bag, and a 2.2lb bag. Certainly, a size for every hobbyist. For pricing, you can get the 1.76oz bag for a little over $7 on Amazon, which isn’t bad and is around where Hikari foods are typically priced.
Wafer Overview
These wafers are unique in that they are much smaller than what you would typically think of with typical fish food wafers like Hikari’s Algae Wafers. They are much smaller as seen in the picture. So, what does this mean for the food? Personally, I have mixed feelings. In some ways, it’s nice to be able to feed a smaller amount of food to perhaps only a few fish. On the other hand, if you have a larger substrate, the food could get stuck between it. Either way, I think the change is negligible.
One thing I also would like to note about these wafers is that they sink immediately. This may sound obvious, but I have tried another wafer recently that did not do this.

Ingredient Quality
There is nothing that jumps off the page when you look at the ingredients for this food. Two interesting ingredients I did see were the whole crushed silkworm pupae and the dried bakery products. The first seems like a solid option, while the other does not.
Otherwise, this food has a classic fish meal as its main ingredient, along with some krill and spirulina, which I like. There are added binders and vitamins as well, which is fairly standard. Hikari always seems to use some solid ingredients, and this continues with that theme in my opinion.
Market Availability
Hikari foods are widely available online and in stores. You should be able to find Hikari Sinking Wafers in most local pet shops, and you may even be able to find some deals out there online.
My Final Thoughts
It’s good. My fish and shrimp love the food, and I like the ingredients. Hence, I think it is an excellent choice to add to the rotation of those looking to feed their bottom-dwelling fish and or invertebrates.
