This Xtreme Krill Flake review is written from a hobbyist perspective after personally testing the food.

Xtreme has been in the hobby for a number of years now and has successfully placed themselves toward the top in the fish food game. While not as popular as some of the big names, they seem to be on their way. So how do the Xtreme Krill Flakes stack up to other foods currently on the market? This review will cover my thoughts as a hobbyist.

Do Fish Like the Food?

Yes, all of my current fish enjoy Xtreme Krill Flakes. It’s one of those foods that the fish will pretty much take from the first feeding. Definitely something you want in quality fish food. Flakes are also a fairly versatile form for feeding most fish.

Package Sizing and Pricing

The food comes in a variety of sizes. A 1 oz, a 3.5 oz, and an 8 oz jar. Currently, the 1oz jar costs about $15 on Amazon and $10 on other small aquarium shop websites. The reason for this price difference is covered below in the “Where to Buy” section. With this said, Xtreme is definitely what I would classify as a more expensive food.

Flake Overview

These flakes are pretty impressive in my opinion. I am impressed for two primary reasons. One is that they do not come all busted up and powdery. In fact, a decent percentage of the flakes are quite large which allows for you to break them into the size you want. The second reason I appreciate them is that they are fairly uniform. Some flakes I have tried in the past may be large, but they are pretty rough and thick which makes them difficult for the fish to eat. Others can also come in very thin at times which is also not very useful. Omega One Flakes are a good example of a flake that I do not like because of both of these reasons.

Ingredient Quality

Xtreme Krill Flakes have some solid ingredients in them, the first of which should be no surprise: krill. It seems to be a protein source that has gained popularity in the past few years for good reason. It helps with the red color and has some fiber from the krill’s shell. I find it to be a great option for most fish. The food also contains fish and shrimp meal. Along with a few binders and vitamins to hold the food together, and help guarantee a well-balanced diet, the ingredients stand out as a strong point for the food.

Where to Buy Xtreme Krill Flake

Even with Xtreme being a “newer” company in the fish food world, they have quickly become available for most hobbyists in most locations you would be looking. Something to note is that they are careful about their pricing to help small businesses. If you check on Amazon, the food is available at a higher price. They mention that they do this on their website as a way to offer their food to those who cannot get it from a local shop. Since they focus on small fish shops you may be able to find some locally. Otherwise, there are a few places to order online. A link to one is included at the bottom of this article.

My Final Thoughts

Xtreme Krill Flakes are a very solid flake food. Perhaps the best currently on the market. The one downside to the food is the price. If you are ok with spending a high price on quality food then this is probably the flake for you.
