In Depth Overview

This Xtreme Nano Pellets review is written from a hobbyist perspective after personally testing the food.

The Xtreme fish foods brand has seemed to really grow over the last couple of years. They have expanded into multiple forms and types of foods for various fish. I had personally only tried the krill flakes at this point but thought their nano pellets would be a good food to try next.

Do Fish Like the Food?

Sure, they like the food enough. I would not say, however, that my fish love the food. Not sure why this is, but a few of my fish tend to eat it and spit it out before finally eating it again. From my understanding, this typically means that the flavor of the food isn’t favored by the fish. While individual fish may have differing opinions, I found mine to be mostly passive.

Package Sizing and Pricing

Xtreme fish foods come in a variety of sizes. As of writing this review, Amazon has two sizes listed. The 5-oz and the 9-oz jars.  But there are other sizes that are offered, like the 20-oz jar for those with a lot of fish. The jar that the food comes in is pretty nice as well, with a solid screw on lid.

Pricing wise you can find a 5oz jar for around $16. While not a cheap food I really don’t think it is too crazy of a price for what you get. A 5oz jar should last you a while depending on how many fish you have.

Pellet Overview

The Xtreme Nano Pellet size is pretty small at .5mm and is very uniform from what I can see. I find this to be a good size for most smaller fish. Some smaller rasboras and fish around that size may not be able to get their mouths around them but it should be good for most tetras and community fish.

Also keep in mind that the pellets will sink relatively quickly. Not a problem if you have fish that can eat it fast from the water column. But if you have larger substrate, it may get stuck between the cracks when they don’t get it quick enough.

Ingredient Quality

Xtreme does some good things with the ingredients in their foods. The two top ingredients are both solid protein options by using krill meal and fish meal. The protein level is at about 52%. Other than these two proteins, you will find an assortment of other standard fish food ingredients like binders and vitamins. Overall, not bad.

Market Availability

Xtreme seems to be getting its name out there. And they do have their products fairly well available. They focus on small fish shops, which is great if you have a seller near you, but if not, they are available online on Amazon and a few other online shops. Keep in mind that they do charge more on Amazon to help push customers to the smaller vendors.

My Final Thoughts

In my opinion, the Xtreme Nano Pellets are a solid option for most aquarium keepers with smaller fish. The ingredients are good, and the amount of food you get for the money isn’t too bad. The catch will be how well your fish like the food. For me, I like their krill flakes, but I will probably try some other options for my small pellets.
