Introduction
This review of Fluker’s Finsect Betta Food is from my personal use of the product and is written from a hobbyist perspective.
A few months ago I began my master fish food list with Fluker’s Finsect Tropical Fish Food. I really enjoy that food and when I saw they had a betta food I figured I should give it a try. My review below will cover the pros and cons of the food and my final opinion.
Do Fish Like the Food?
Yes, my betta Balky enjoys this food. He eagerly eats it along with most foods he is offered. Some factors could keep your betta from eating the food that I will have listed below, but if the pellet is small enough and the food doesn’t sink too fast it should be readily accepted.
Package Sizing and Pricing
Finsect’s betta food only comes in one size, the 1oz jar. It only cost a little over $3 which is a great price for what you get.
Granule Overview
The granules appear to be identical to the tropical formula which is problematic in some ways. This means that they have a fairly large variety in their size and they sink rather quickly. Both of which are bad for feeding bettas. I like to use smaller pellets for my betta since he is on the smaller side and most bettas enjoy eating from the surface of the water.
If you buy this food to feed you betta, be sure to check the size of the granule you add and be sure to gently place it on the surface of the water to keep it from sinking quickly.
Ingredient Quality
My favorite part of this food is the ingredients. Yet again, they are identical to the tropical formula the company also sells except for their being a slightly higher protein level in the guaranteed analysis. I really like that the food doesn’t have fillers and the protein sources are solid. For me the food seems to feed “cleaner”, and my fish appear to have a healthy amount of energy after feeding the tropical formula food.
Packaging
Fluker’s Finsect Betta Food comes in a small jar with a screw-on lid which gets the job done. It initially came with a thin foam top that I found didn’t seem to seal well. Otherwise, the jars do a decent job of keeping the food from getting pummeled into powder.
Market Availability
One of this food’s current downfalls is its very small availability in the market. From my understanding, you can currently only purchase this food directly from Walmart in person. Even online I found the tropical formula only available from Walmart. This is probably because they have an exclusive offer of some sort. So if you are interested in trying the food you will need to go to a Walmart near you.
My Final Thoughts
As much as I enjoy Fluker’s Finsect tropical formula, I have mixed feelings about their betta food. I like the ingredients, but if you want to feed these to your betta you will need to make sure they don’t sink too fast and that the granules are a good size for your betta.
Also, if you like the food or want to give it a try, you might as well buy the tropical formula. You get more for the money with what appears to be practically no major difference.
