Introduction
This review of NorthFin Betta Bits is from my personal use of the product and is written from a hobbyist perspective.
I had heard some good things about this food from a few people and figured I would give it a try myself. Interestingly, I had tried the Super Betta formula before this one and did not have high expectations. But this food exceeded those low expectations by a large margin. This review will cover my experience with trying the food.
Do Fish Like the Food?
Mr. Fish, my betta, really likes this food. He readily accepted the food during his first feeding. So yes, betta approved.
Side note: I like to feed this to some of my community fish sometimes as well, and they also seem to like it.
Package Sizing and Pricing
NorthFin Betta Bits come in two sizes: a 20-gram bag and a 100-gram bag. The 20-gram bag costs about $8 on Amazon and would be plenty for those who only have a betta or two; the 100-gram bag costs about $11 and could be used for those who have a bunch of bettas. The bag is resealable, which helps keep the food fresh, but it is not as convenient as some other forms of feeding, like the Fluval Betta Formula bottle. Using a small spoon may help to measure out pellets.
Pellet Overview
These pellets float decently well and are a uniform 1mm size. In my opinion, this is a great size for most bettas, but you may want something smaller if you have a baby betta.
Ingredient Quality
NorthFin uses krill as its main ingredient, but not to an extreme level like the Super Betta Formula. The next ingredients are whole herring meal and whole sardine meal. All solid proteins. There are also some other nice ingredients like spirulina, which I appreciate. Overall, I like the ingredients.
Market Availability
I find that Norfin foods are not the easiest to find. This food tends to be more popular than some of the other foods they carry and may be available in some specialty shops near you. But it is also available at some online shops, including Amazon.
Side Note: The pricing seems to be controlled by Northfin to some degree, and you can find some better prices on other online retailer websites than Amazon.
Northfin Super Betta vs. Northfin Betta Bits
After using both of these foods, I have found the ingredients and feeding response to be quite different. For the ingredients, after the krill, you will find that the Betta Bits have whole herring and sardine meal, while the Super Betta formula has wheat flour and kelp. And as far as the fish liking the food, I find them to be like night and day. My betta readily ate the Betta Bites but does not seem to like the Super Betta formula.
My Final Thoughts
I really like the ingredients in this food and find the price fair for what you get. My betta also really likes it. So can’t complain here. Overall, a solid option for those looking for a more premium betta food for your pet.
